Biography

Anna Magavern is a student in the M.F.A. Literary Translation/M.A. French and Francophone World Studies dual degree program. She holds a B.A. in Comparative Literature from Brown University. She completed her Literary Translation thesis in Spring 2023 with a translation of Lyonel Trouillot's 2013 novel Parable of the Bankrupt Man (Parabole du failli), accompanied by a critical paratext exploring how the novel's subversive political commentary impacts translation decisions. Her research interests include the agency of the translator and literature's capacity to intervene in historical memory. Her article "Enfermements, errances et rencontres : l'esthétique de performance dans Humus de Fabienne Kanor" won the 2023 Women in French Graduate Essay Award.
