The Italian program provides students with many opportunities to engage with the Italian language and culture outside of the classroom environment. Activities include the weekly Italian Conversation Hour, Tavola italiana, where students practice speaking with faculty, native speakers, and their peers in a casual environment.

The Italian program also organizes film screenings, guest lectures, and events featuring student presentations such as the yearly Giornata italiana (Italian Day). Although opened to all students and members of the community, students of Italian are the main intended beneficiaries of Giornata italiana: they are offered a forum where they can showcase their knowledge and skills, and can become acquainted with the broad range of learning opportunities offered by the Italian program beyond the GE language sequence.
