The French program celebrated the accomplishments of 22 students who received Tyner scholarships the afternoon of April 10, 2025.

After graduating from the UI in 1970 with degrees in French and Political Science, Richard Tyner received a prestigious Marshall Scholarship to study at Manchester University in the U.K., where he earned an M.A. He then went on to the London School of Economics where he earned a PhD. Dr. Tyner then earned his law degree at Yale Law School and went on to practice international law in Paris, France and Saudi Arabia.

DEO Emilie Maurel-Destruel introduced Dr. Tyner to the many students present who received scholarships. Her opening remarks outlined the personal and professional benefits of achieving fluency in French--benefits exemplified by Dr. Tyner's career path. Awardees gave brief testimonials describing their interests in French and their enthusiasm for the French program and its faculty. A variety of authentic French pastries and snacks were served. All who were present had a wonderful time.
