Biography

Hoi! My name is Suzan, and I am from Oss, the Netherlands. After completing a predominantly science-oriented high school study, I made the interesting decision to continue my studies with a Bachelor’s Degree in French Language and Culture at the Radboud University in Nijmegen. I spent Fall semester 2019 in Pau, France, where I explored my interest in cinema. During the semester in Pau, the idea of coming to the United States of America to continue my studies in an American M.A. program arose. My Bachelor’s Thesis focused on the potential effects of subtitles in the language learning process. I graduated cum laude in 2020. During the academic year of 2020-2021, I focused on applying to American universities, taking multiple courses, including Fiction Writing and Screenwriting courses and a course in Korean Language, and preparing for and taking the DALF C1 and DELE B2 exams.

I like to be able to express myself in various languages. For the future, I hope to be able to continue perfecting my English, French, and Spanish, and continue learning Korean, Italian, and German (and more!?). I hope to acquire new insights and knowledge about the French and Francophone World during my Graduate Studies at the University of Iowa. I also hope that I will be able to learn more about the intriguing world of the motion picture industry, and the creative writing process. Mostly, I hope to be able to see many amazingly beautiful places, meet numerous people of different cultures, and go to the one country that has always had a special place in my heart: Italia!
